Inspired by the painter, Jackson Pollock, the paint traces the dancer’s movement on a 9’x12’ canvas. Reflective energy builds on change that is unseen. In this piece, the musicians participate in a “mirror game” with the dancer as she paints. Finding A Final Resting Place: This piece plays with images and ideas related to bee swarms. The movement explores both being a part of a swarm and being surrounded by a swarm. Bee swarms occur when part of a bee colony leaves the hive and travels as a swarm in search of a new location to start another hive. The transition away from the hive is necessary for the colony's survival, but it is often dangerous. Bees venture out into the unknown without any idea as to where they will finally settle to start again. Unearthed: I came to know myself as a woman; the glorious things about myself that I never relished. I shed my chains when I shed you and was no longer ashamed to be me. I now experience the world recklessly through my senses. Far From Home is about a young girl whose imagination offers the comfort, safety, and stability that her home life lacks. In the Snowfields: The track "Want Me" is used with permission by composer Alexander Balanescu. The track can be found on his album "Possessed" through Mute Records Ltd. For more information visit www.balanescu.com Siren This is the one song everyone would like to learn: the song that is irresistible: the song that forces men to leap overboard in squadrons even though they see beached skulls the song nobody knows because anyone who had heard it is dead, and the others can’t remember. Shall I tell you the secret and if I do, will you get me out of this bird suit? (excerpt from Siren Song by Margaret Atwood) 7 ± 2: This solo explores the nature and mechanics of memory. The mental processes of repetition, accumulation, coding material, and deconstruction are reinvented through movement projects. The solo takes place in a series of episodes that mirror how this individual objectively views her life events. Four Green Events is an investigation of the dynamic spectrum that the color green symbolizes in our society.
