James Mim Region: Bentiw James fled his home in 1988 and reached Etang in Ethiopia in 1989. After staying five months, he traveled to Pinyado in Ethiopia, and stayed there from 1989 to 1991. James returned to Sudan in 1991 and stayed in Pachala for six months then left for Kenya arriving there in 1992. He stayed in Kenya from 1992 until 2001. He flew to the United States and arrived on June 19, 2001. James’ first apartment was on Dunlap Avenue in Phoenix, where he lived for two years. James says he likes the United States because “The came to me and asked me what I need. They buy me what I need; food, clothes, whatever.” He also learned to drive. James got a landscaping job on August 20, 2001. He was able to buy a car, a white Nissan Altima. James attended Glendale Community College from 2002 to 2003. He plans to take some computer classes at Glendale Community College in the future. His favorite foods are cheeseburgers, pizza, hamburgers and fried chicken.
