Borivoj Martinic-Jercic Borivo.i Martinic-Jercic has been the Concertmaster of the Phoenix Syrnphony Orchestra since 1998. He had his first major solo perfonnance at the age of fourteen with the Zagreb Philharmonic in his native Croatia. A student of Prof. Kristijan Pefiovich, he graduated from the Blagoje Bersa Conservatory of Music in Zagreb in 1978. Tlte satne year he came to the United States on a scholarship to the Interlochen Arts Academy. Martinic-Jercic went on to earll a B.M. and M.M. from the University of Michigan, under the guidance of Paul Makanowitzky and Prof. Ruggiero Ricci. After he graduated he pursued a career as a concert violinist with numerous solo and charnber music perfonnances in tlre United States, Caltada, Japan and Europe. He has perfonned rvith such prestigious ensembles as the Detroit Contemporary Cltamber Ensernble and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. Aside front his post with the Phoenix Symphony, Martinic-Jercic is the Concertmaster of the Santa Fe Opera Orchestra, and he teachcs violin at ASU School of Music. An active composer as a student, he conducted his owu composition at thirteen. He stuclied at Easttnan School of Music wiilr Cecile Genhart and Barry Snyder. I{e won the Eastman Concefto Cornpetition and Performers Certificate and graduated with honors. He also studied in Europe with Jocrg Demus. He won the grand pnze from the International Piano Recording Competition and grants from the DAAD and the NEA. His performances have been praised in the New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Arizona Republic, and the Korean magazine Musica di Pianoforte. He recently recorded and perforrned in Korea, Russia, Europe, and Canada. He is a founding member of the Papago Chamber Ensernble. He is Professor of piano and Keyboard Area Coordinator at the Arizona State University School of Music. He can be heard on ACA Digital, ARF, Canyon, JIGU, Koclt, and Surnmit records.
