Thank you. David Northington is Professor of Music at the University of Tennessee. The New York Times has called David Northington "an immensely gifted musician... who combines the technical mastery of a virtuoso with the musical sensitivity of a poet." Dr. Northington has performed concerts and concerto engagements with orchestras throughout the world. Recent tours have taken him throughout the United States, Europe, Canada, China, and Russia. During his concert tour of China and Russia in the summer of 2000, he was also invited to give master classes at the countries' leading conservatories in Shanghai, Beijing, and St. Petersburg. Dr. Northington's many accomplishments include first prizes in the East/West Artists Competition, the American Music Scholarship Association's International Competition, the Concert Artists Guild Competition, the unanimous Judges Prize at the Fourth Gina Bachauer International Piano competition, and selection to the Artistic Ambassador Program sponsored by the United States Information Agency. As an Artistic Ambassador, Dr. Northington has toured extensively in France, Spain, and Portugal. He has been heard throughout Europe in broadcasts of the Voice of America. In 1985 French National relevision filmed a special two-hour recital by Dr. Northington at the historic Tallyrand Theatre in Paris. Concurrent with his performing career, Dr. Northington has devoted much of his life to teaching. Since earning his education at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and the Yale University School of Music, he has taught on the faculties of Georgia College, Western Michigan University, and the University of Tennessee. His many teaching awards include the Tennessee Music Teachers Association's Teacher of the Year Award and the Tennessee Governor's School of the Arts "Outstanding Teacher Award."
