Modest Mussorgsky (1839-1881) Conductors Lev Ivanov was born in 1979 in Kyiv, Ukraine, where he began his musical studies at the age of 5 studying piano in the Gliere Music College and choral singing in the Kiev Children’s Choir Schedryk. He studied flute in the Kiev Secondary School of Music with Yuriy Zatserkovny and continued his studies in the Lisenko Special Music School with Vladimir Turbovsky. Lev obtained a Bachelor of Music degree from the Tchaikovsky National Academy of Music of Ukraine, where he studied flute and conducting. Later, he successfully entered Academy’s department of orchestral conducting where he continued his studies with maestro Roman Kofman. Upon relocating to the United States he obtained a Master of Music degree in Orchestral Conducting from Brigham Young University. Lev is currently working on his Doctor of Music degree at the Arizona State University, where he is coaching several University Orchestras and serving as an assistant conductor of Arizona State University Symphony and Chamber Orchestra. Lev Ivanov won prizes in the International Chamber Ensemble Competition “Guitaralia” (Poland), Vorzel International Flute Competition (Ukraine) and Lisenko School of Music Department of Wind Instruments Competition. In 2007 he was selected to participate in a master‐ class with Thomas Cockrell and Keith Lokhart, held in collaboration with the College Orchestra Directors Association (United States). In 2008 Lev participated in the Orkney Conducting Course and St. Magnus Festival (United Kingdom) under the direction of maestro Martyn Brabbins. In the summer of 2010 Lev participated in the Deer Valley Music Festival coaching and conducting students from the Park City High School District, where he is planning to return in 2011. Lev Ivanov conducted various orchestras and ensembles such as: Tchaikovsky National Academy of Music Conductor’s Orchestra, BYU Philharmonic, Symphony, Chamber, University and Strings orchestras, BYU New Music Ensemble, North Chamber Orchestra, ASU Symphony Orchestra, ASU Sinfonietta, Park City Summer Festival Orchestra, Hebrides Ensemble, St. Magnus Festival Chorus and Scottish Chamber Orchestra. Dr. Laura Inman is currently a Faculty Associate at Arizona State University where she conducts the ASU Choral Union. She holds degrees from the University of Louisville and ASU where she recently completed her DMA. Dr. Inman served two years as the Assistant Director of the Phoenix Symphony Chorus and is currently on faculty at Veritas Preparatory Academy in Phoenix, where she also serves as Dean of Girls. Previously, she led the ASU Women’s Chorus and was Assistant Conductor for the ASU Concert Choir, University Choir, Lyric Opera Theatre, and ASU’s vocal jazz ensemble, the Herberger Singers. As a member of Southwest Liederkranz, she recently participated in two national symposiums working directly with American composers Morten Lauridsen and Jaakko Mantyjarvi on preparation and interpretation of their choral works for both the concert and operatic stage. Her choirs have been invited to participate in the 2009 Fiesta Bowl as well as sing the Coronation Mass at Carnegie Hall in New York in April 2010. Dr. Inman has performed with the Kentucky Opera and sings as soprano soloist with the American Bach Series, now known as the Arizona Bach Festival. She is in her eighth season as a soprano and Community Engagement Coordinator in the Grammy Award‐winning Phoenix Chorale. Dr. Inman appeared on the Phoenix Chorale’s two Grammy Award‐winning albums: Grechaninov: Passion Week and Spotless Rose and also on the Grammy Award‐nominated album Rheinberger: Sacred Choral Works. She recently performed with the Phoenix Chorale at Lincoln Center and in South Korea at the Incheon International Choral Festival. Dr. Inman is also a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, Chorus America and the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, and serves on the state ACDA board.
