Thank you. A native of Toronto, violinist Jonathan Swartz has distinguished himself throughout North America both as a performer and pedagogue. While serving on the faculties at Arizona State University, the Rocky Mountain Summer Conservatory, the Innsbrook Institute, and the Domaine Forget Music Academy, Swartz has managed to maintain a prolific performing career. He collaborates often with his sister, Jennifer Swartz, principal harpist of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, and his wife, American pianist Wendy Chen. Swartz has an upcoming performance at the Smithsonian Chamber Music Society in Washington, DC, and has previously appeared at Colorado's Strings in the Mountains Chamber Festival, the Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival, the Mooredale Concert Series, and the Artists Series at Roy Thompson Hall, in addition to several venues under the auspices of Les Jeunesses Musicales du Canada. He is also a member of the IRIS Chamber Orchestra in Tennessee, under conductor Michael Stern, an ensemble that regularly performs with the world's leading artists, including Gil Shaham, Itzhak Perlman, Yo-Yo Ma, Jaime Laredo, Joshua Bell, Midori, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, and Yefim Bronfman. Sought after as a master clinician, Swartz was interviewed by STRINGS magazine for an article in the October 2006 issue, based on his presentation Conceptualizing Arm Weight at the 2006 American String Teachers' National Conference. He has given master classes throughout North America, including at Vanderbilt University, Bowling Green State University, Florida State University, the Interlochen Center for the Arts, and Stanford University. In addition, Swartz is the founder and Artistic Director of the Visiting Quartet Residency Program at ASU, a chamber music program that integrates visiting resident artists with a comprehensive chamber music curriculum. Quartets in this residency have included the St. Lawrence, Juilliard, and Brentano String Quartets. As well, along with violinist Mark Fewer, Swartz is co-creator of the Violinist Seminars at Domaine Forget, a unique team-taught intensive summer program for the most advanced young violinists. Nancy Buck is Associate Professor of Viola at Arizona State University. She holds degrees in performance from the Oberlin Conservatory and the Cleveland Institute of Music. She is in great demand as a chamber musician and artistic collaborator, presenting concerts and masterclasses throughout the United States and Canada. She is an artist faculty member of the Rocky Mountain Summer Conservatory in Steamboat Springs, Colorado during the summers. In June, Ms. Buck will host the International Viola Congress at ASU. Thomas Landschoot joined the Herberger College School of Music faculty of Arizona State University after having taught at the University of Michigan. Born in Belgium, Landschoot began studying the cello at the age of six with his father, leading to a successful career as soloist and teacher. He performs virtually the entire standard cello repertoire, as well as works by contemporary composers such as Witold Lutoslawski, Kristof Penderecki and Bernd Alois Zimmermann. Several composers have dedicated their works to him. Cont'd on back AD, Mr. Landschoot has played numerous recitals in Europe, the United States r and Asia, both as a soloist and in chamber music settings. He is a founding member of the Chamber Ensemble Bloomington in Japan, the Taman Trio i Europe and the Trio du Solcil in the US. Mr. Landschoot has been invold interdisciplinary public service project resulting in the building of an orphanage and hospital in Tamil Nadu, India. A documentary film of the cellist performing India has been combined with photography, culinary, journalism and new compositions. He recently performed with the National Orchestra of Belgium, the Frankfurt Chamber Orchestra, Prima la Musica, Tempe Symphony and the Orchestra of the United States Army Band. His Interviews and performances have been broadcast on radio and television in Europe, Japan and the United States and recordings are available on Summit, Organic and Centaur Records. Mr. Landschoot has been awarded the Katherine K. Herberger College of Fine Arts Distinguished Tenure Track/Tenure Faculty Teaching Award in 2005. Landschoot has given masterclasses at conservatories and universities throughout Asia, the U.S., Europe. He spends his summers performing and teaching at places like the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, Killington Music Festival, Meadowmount School of Music and the Texas Music Festival.
