Thank you. Laura Barron has been hailed as "one of the finest flutists of her generation" Flute Network. Since making her solo debut at age 17 with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, she has maintained a passionate and diverse career in which she draw upon the inspiration of her teachers Bonita Boyd, Sam Baron, and Tim Hutchins. Highlights of her career include solo appearances with Alexander Schneider's Brandenburg Ensemble in Lincoln Center and Kennedy Center and the performance of nearly 50 premieres with the Aspen Contemporary Ensemble from 1990-92. Recently, she was appointed Assistant Professor of flute at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. There she co-founded the Painted Sky Music Festival with NAU clarinet professor, Michael Sullivan, in 2003. She also performed as the principal flutist of the American Sinfonietta during the summer of 2002 in Bellingham, WA. In 1996 and 2000, she taught at UW-Madison, was a member of their Wingra Wind Quintet, and performed as principal flutists and soloist with the Madison Symphony Orchestra. In between her two appointments in Madison, she resided in Vancouver where she founded the Divine Winds and Forbidden Flutes, both of which have been featured on CBC Radio, and she also freelanced with the Vancouver, CBC, and Victoria symphonies. She has been a Fulbright scholar and she holds degrees from Eastman School of Music, SUNY Stony Brook, and McGill University. She has held positions with the Indian Hill, Colorado Springs, and National Repertory Orchestras, performed with the Minnesota Orchestra, and toured throughout the United States, Germany, and Japan with the Wilson Wind Quintet. As a certified yoga instructor since 1999, she also teachers Yoga for Musician workshops in universities and flute clubs throughout the country. Her debut solo CD, Echoes of a Blue Planet, was released in 1999. Her second CD and publication, Expressive Concert Etudes for the Flute, was released by Carl Fischer in November, 2003. Laura resides in the mountains of Arizona with her husband, Geoff, where they enjoy frequent biking, hiking, and climbing. Acclaimed by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung as "a commanding solo player, the most supportive of accompanists, and a leader in chamber music," pianist Jeffrey Sykes has performed throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Western Europe. The San Francisco Examiner praised his recent appearance with the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players as "a tour-de-force performance 'that was] the evening's major delight." He made his Carnegie I fall debut in 2000 with oboist Gerard Reuter and flutist Stephanie Jun under the auspices of the Pro Musicis Foundation. Ms. Jutt and Dr. Sykes are the founders and artistic directors of the Bach Dancing and Dynamite Society of Wisconsin, a highlyacclaimed and innovative chamber music festival. Dr. Sykes also serves as the Music Director of Opera for the Young, a professional opera company that gives more than 260 fully-staged performances a year to schoolchildren throughout Wisconsin, eastern Minnesota, eastern Iowa, and northern Illinois. Dr. Sykes holds degrees with honors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the Franz-Schubert-Institut in Bade-beiWein. Austria, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He has garnered numerous awards, including the coveted Jacob Javits, Fellowship from the United States Department of Education, and Eier Stipendium for study in Austria. and a Fulbright grant to study at the Hochschule fiir Musik and Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
