John Robinson Martin Setchell - Biography Martin Setchell is Organ Curator of the Christchurch Town Hall in the Convention Centre in Christchurch, New Zealand, where he regularly performs on the newly-installed Rieger pipe organ. He was born in Blackpool, England, where he received his early rnusical education, including some tuition from Tower Ballroorn organist Reginald Dixon. After graduating with Honors degrees in French and Music from the University of Exeter, he studied briefly with Pierre Cochereau, then titulat organist of Notre Dame in Paris. Later periods of study followed with Marie Claire Alain in France, Piet Kee in Holland and Peter Hurford in England. He was awarded the Limpus and Shin prizes when he received his Fellowship of the Royal College of Organists in London. He emigrated tg New Zeiland on his appointment to tlrc University of Cantebury School of Music, where he is now a Senior Lecturer in Music and organ tutor. During his sabbatical leave in 1999, he has given numerous organ concerts in Germany, England, America and Australia. His University teaching and research career is combined with a busy schedule of recitals and concerts as soloist, accompanist and coninuo player. An active composer and choral conductor, his organ and choral compositions are published by Kevin Mayhew Music in England. He is also a music critic for The Press and Director of Music of the Parish of Fendalton. Izt (MANU 1539) recorded on the international recognition and featured on the BBC's program, The Organ Entertains. A second CD is now being planned.
