-{-erberger College of Fine Arts ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY BETTY MALLARD AND DAVID RENNER PIANO, FOUR-HAND RECITAL GUEST ARTIST RECITAL SERIES KATZIN CONCERT HALL SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 2006 • 7:30 P.M. Betty Mallard and David Renner, both associate professors of piano at The University of Texas at Austin, have been widely praised for their frequent four-hand recitals since they began playing together in 1984. Their repertoire spans the entire history of four-hand music, from J.C. Bach, Mozart and Schubert to present-day composers. Performing throughout the United States, they have presented a lecture-recital on fourhand playing at the Murray Dranoff International Two-Piano Symposium, have participated in American Matthay Festivals and have also recorded recitals for educational television (PBS). In 2002, they played and gave master classes in Hong Kong and in 2003, they performed and taught in Cyprus. Betty Mallard holds both Bachelor of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from The University of Texas at Austin, as well as a Master of Music degree from the University of Southern California. Her teachers include Dalies Frantz, Lillian Steuber, Gwendolyn Koldofsky, William Doppmann and David Renner. She is the recipient of both a University of Texas College of Fine Arts Teaching Award and the Texas Music Teachers Association Collegiate Teaching Award. In addition to her performances of four-hand repertoire, she has given solo and collaborative recitals throughout the United States and on two European tours with the Austin Chamber Ensemble. Dr. Mallard served as Division Head of Keyboard at the University of Texas for seven years. David Renner has taught at Michigan State University and, since 1974, has taught at The University of Texas at Austin. He holds the Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees, as well as the Performer's Certificate and Artist Diploma in piano performance, from the Eastman School of Music where he studied with Cecile Genhart. A Fulbright scholar, he studied two years at the Hochscule fur Musik in Munich, Germany with Friedrich Wiihrer and one summer at the Mozarteum in Salzburg with Kurt Neurntiller. Thereafter, he studied extensively with Frank Mannheimer. Mr. Renner is She recipient, of the' Texas Music 'Teachers Association Collegiate Teaching Award. He was also honored by the establishment of a Presidential Endowed Scholarship in Piano in his name by former University of Texas president, Lorene L. Rogers. In addition to his fourhand performances, he has also given solo and collaborative recitals throughout the United States as well as in Europe.
