t W * * "l^ Arizona State University School of Music GUEST ARTIST CONCERT SERIES THOMAS].MOORE PIANO KATZIN CONCERT HALL Friday, October 13,2000. 7:30 p.m. PROGRAM A specialist in contemporary piano music, Guest Artist Thomas Moore has earned acclaim for his performances, lectures, and recordings. Fanfare magazine has called his work "technically impeccable," and The Washington Posr has praised his "expertly played" interpretations. A respected performer of the works of John Cage, Moore has been featured in numerous major Cage festivals. Moore's solo piano recordings of works of Robert Gibson and Stuart Saunders Smith have received critical acclaim, as well as his winning the Grand Prize of the International Piano Recording Competition for his recording of George Crumb'i Makrokosmos, Volume I. The international jury described this recording of Crumb's work as "stunning, alive, intelligent and imaginative." His recordings may be found on Capstone and O.O. Discs. In addition to performing, lecturing, and writing about contemporary music, Moore has also served as Director of Twentieth Century Concerts at the University of Maryland, College Park, and as Coordinator of the Marland Intemational Piano Festival (now known as the William Kapell Competition). He currently serves as Director of Arts and Culture Advancement at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Moore has recently returned from a tour of Europe performing in Berlin just prior to his ASU performance. Mr. M_oore appears this evening through sponsorship by the Contemporary Music Society (ASU student composers) and the School of Music Keyboard Area.
