Winner of the Hillel oan Frazer Memorial Award in the Arts SAMUEL WINSTON PRICE TROMBONE MAURICIO ARIAS PIANO STUDENT RECITAL SERIES KATZIN CONCERT HALL WEDNESDAY, MARCH 19, 2008 • 7:30 PM MUSIC erger C °liege of the Arts ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY Samuel Winston Price, 21, is a trombonist from Tulsa, OK. After graduating from Union High School in 2005, he was awarded a full scholarship at ASU. The past few years, Samuel has been honored with numerous awards including, Finalists at the Tucson Symphony and Arapahoe Philharmonic Concerto Competitions, three citations for musical arts from the Governor of Oklahoma, three commendations for musical arts from the State of Oklahoma, and two honorable mentions with the International Trombone Association Competitions. Over the last two summers, Samuel was given fellowships to study with the National Symphony Orchestra members at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Samuel is currently in his junior year of an orchestral performance degree at ASU where he studies with Professor Gail Eugene Wilson. Samuel will be competing as one of two finalists in a concerto competition with the Grand Junction Symphony in Colorado this month. He will also be competing as one of four finalists with the Eastern Trombone Workshop's Solo Competition in Washington D.C. New York Philharmonic's Principal Trombone and Juilliard Professor, Joseph Alessi, personally selected Samuel to be one of four international tenor trombone participants in the Alessi Seminar in Fossano, Italy summer, 2008. He is currently working to obtain funding to attend. Samuel would like to thank Professor Wilson and his parents, Warren and Naomi, for their continued support and encouragement.
