JOHN ERICSON HORN TEH-LING CHIANG PIANO FACULTY ARTIST CONCERT SERIES KATZIN CONCERT HALL SUNDAY, AUGUST 26, 2007 • 2:30 PM MU S IC erber,gerCollege of Fine Arts ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY Dr. John Ericson is Associate Professor of horn at Arizona State University, Artist Faculty at the Brevard Music Center, and was recently elected to the Advisory Council of the International Horn Society. Dr. Ericson has released two solo CDs on the Summit label and has presented sessions at three international horn symposiums and numerous regional events. Author of over 25 articles, Dr. Ericson is an authority on the history of the early valved horn. Excerpts from his publications and teaching materials may be found in his website, Horn Articles Online. Besides performing as Principal Horn in the Brevard Music Center Orchestra, he was a member of the Nashville Symphony and has performed with the Indianapolis Symphony, the Phoenix Symphony, and the Rochester Philharmonic. Prior to joining the faculty at Arizona State he taught at the Crane School of Music (SUNY Potsdam), Tunghai University in Taiwan, Western Kentucky University, and the Bay View Music Festival. A native of Emporia, Kansas, Dr. Ericson holds degrees from Indiana University, the Eastman School of Music, and Emporia State University. Dr. Teh-Ling Chiang is an active piano teacher and performer. Her career began in Taichung, Taiwan where she started piano lessons at the age of six. After completing studies at Tunghai University, Dr. Chiang came to the United States in 1990 where she earned advanced degrees from the Eastman School of Music (MM) and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (DMA). In 1996 she was honored to be selected by the Colorado Council on the Arts and Young Audiences, Inc. to give educational performances throughout the state of Colorado. Now based in Chandler, Arizona, Dr. Chiang teaches traditional piano lessons and PianoTeams. TM Developed by N. Jane Tan, this approach to piano pedagogy features five pianists performing on five pianos. Dr. Chiang's students have won prizes at several competitions including the First International PianoTeams TM Competition in 2003, the Gina Bachauer International PianoTeams TM Competition in 2004, and the Second International PianoTeamsT" Competition in 2006, as well as the Bradshaw & Buono International Solo Piano Competition in 2007.
