In 1986, his youth band took First Prize at the International Bantl Competition in Spain. In l912,Langlet entered the Paris Conservatory as a student of Maurice Andre, and graduated several ycars larer with a coveted Prize. Strange" Dr. Richard E. Strange, Professor of Music, is in his eighteenth year as Director of Bands. In thc past hc has conducted, judged or given clinics in Canada, Japan, The Netherlands, England, Guam, New Zealand andFrance. Formanyyears,hehasbeenactiveintheconrnlunityorchestrafield,andcurrentlyisMusicDirector ol rhe Tempe Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Strange (elected to the American Bandmasters Association in 1968) is a Pasr Presidenr of that organization. He is also Past President of the College Band Directors National Associarion. In Decemberof rhis year, he was the 16th Symphonic Band Conductor in theUnited States (sincc rhe award's inception in 1963) ro receive the "Distinguishecl Service to Music Medal" given by Kappa Kappa Psi, the Narional Honorary Band Fraternity. Also, in December, he was awardetl the "Cintion of Excellence" by thc National Band Association for his "outstanding contribution to bands and band music." .
