Borivoj Martinic-Jercic
Borivoi Martinic-Jercic has been the Concertmaster of tl-re
Phoenix Symphony Orchestra since 1998. Ile had his first
major solo peifonltance at the age of foufieen with the_Zagreb
philharnionic in his native croatia. A student of Prof. Kristijan
Petlovich, he graduated from the Blagoje Bersa Conservatory
of Music in Zagreb in 1978. Tlte satne year he came to the
United States on a scholarship to the Interlochen Arts
Academy. Martinic-Jercic went on to earn a B.M. and M.M.
frorn the University of Michigan, under the guidance of Paul
Makanowitzky and Prof. Ruggiero Ricci. After he graduated
he pursuecl a career as a concen violinist with numerous solo
and charnber music perfonnances in the United States, Catlada,
Japan and Europe. He has perfonned with such prestigious
ensernbles as the Detroit Contemporary Charnber Ensemble
and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. Aside fronr ltis post with
the Phoenix Symphorty, Martinic-Jercic is the Concertmaster
of the Santa FcOpera Orchestra, and he teachcs violin at ASU
School of Music.

Walter Cosand
Walter Cosand gave his first recital at twelve. An active
cornposer as a student, he conducted his 9wl] c.omposition at
thirteen. He studied at Easttnan School of Music with Cecile
Genhart and Barry Snyder. Ile won the Eastrnan Concefto
Competition and Performers Certificate and graduated with

honois. He also studied in Europe with Jocrg Denlus. He won
the grand pnze from the International Piano Recording
Competition and grants from the DAAD and the NEA. His
perforn-rances have been praised in the New York Times, San
Francisco Chronicle, Arizona Republic, and the Korean
magazine Musica di Pianoforte. He recently recorded and
performed in Korea, Russia, Europe, and Canada. He is a
iounding member of the Papago Charnber Ensemble. He is
Professor of piano and Keyboard Area Coordinator at the
Arizona State University School of Music. He can be heard on
ACA Digital, ARF, Canyon, JIGU, Koclt, and Surnmit records.
