Tonight's program is dedicated to the memory of John Garvey, a
professor of music for more than four decades at the University of
Illinois who passed away in July. He was one of the first in his field
to recognize the importance of preserving the great legacy of big
band jazz. In addition to founding the Jazz program at Illinois, John
was a fantastic musician and a master teacher.
