Both have worked closely with leading contemporary composers including John Harbison, Henryk Gorecki, Leslie Bassett, William Bolcom, William Albright, Bright Sheng, and Ben Johnston. The performers are presenting a series of duo concerts throughout the country based on folk-inspired music of the 20th c. Ms. Olson, has performed with the University of Michigan Contemporary Directions Ensemble and the new music group Quorum, served on faculties at the University of Denver and Colorado College, participated in numerous chamber music festivals throughout the country, and been the recipient of the prestigious Elizabeth Sprague-Coolidge chamber music award. She is also a member of the DaVinci String Quartet and is presently recording the entire string chamber music of Charles Martin Loeffler on the Naxos label. Ms. Franks' dual musical roles as both composer and pianist have brought her increasing attention as an artist of "high inspiration." Her fusion of her Peruvian heritage with classical strains has been received with acclaim in concert venues in both North and South America, including recent appearances with the Illinois Symphony, the Mallarme Chamber Players and Modem Works of NYC. She is presently recording a CD entitled Compadrazgo of classical Hispanic composers influenced by the music of the Quechua/Aymara Indians of the Andes, and in summer 2001 will record the complete piano music of Pulitzer Prize winning composer Leslie Bassett. This evening's concert has been made possible through the support of the Contemporary Music Society, the School of Music, the Women's Studies Department, the Center for Latin American Studies, and ASASU.
