e 1-1--erbergi frF le Arts School of Music GUEST ARTIST RECITAL SERIES LIGHT AND SHADOW: A CELEBRATION OF THE HUMAN CONDITION ELI EPSTEIN, HORN AND TOUR GUIDE KATIE MCLIN, VIOLIN WALTER COSAND, PIANO KATZIN CONCERT HALL Saturday, October 22, 2005 • 2:30 p.m. ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY Eli Epstein, horn, attended the Settlement Music School in Philadelphia and appeared as soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra on several student concerts. He earned his Bachelor of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music in 1979 and joined the Rochester Philharmonic. In 1987, he joined the Cleveland Orchestra and the faculty at the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he has conducted several chamber orchestra performances. He has appeared as soloist with the Cleveland Orchestra in Severance Hall and Blossom Music Center. An active chamber musician, Mr. Epstein has appeared at Severance Hall, Tanglewood, Philadelphia's Academy of Music, the Aspen Music Festival and the Kennedy Center. A member of the faculty of the Aspen Music Festival and School, he has served as principal horn of the Aspen Chamber Symphony since 2000. Mr. Epstein has presented master classes at major conservatories throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. Many of his former students hold positions in major orchestras and universities. An advocate for music as a healing force in society, Mr. Epstein has created programs called Music from the Inside Out that are designed to help people realize their potential to enjoy more music. Eli Epstein is on faculty at the Boston Conservatory, Aspen School of Music and Music Academy of the West, and is a Conn-Selmer artist. Katie McLin, Associate Professor of Violin, enjoys an extremely varied and prolific performing career. Since her debut with the Oregon Symphony at the age of fifteen, Dr. McLin has made dozens of appearances as soloist with orchestras across the country. A member of the McLin/Campbell Duo with pianist Andrew Campbell and Trio del Sol (with Robert Spring, clarinetist, and Andrew Campbell) she performs extensively on recital series throughout the U.S., and also serves as the Assistant Concertmaster of the ProMusica Chamber Orchestra of Ohio. Dr. McLin has recordings on the Naxos, Summit, and Opus One Labels and her live performances have been broadcast on NPR's Performance Today, WQXR's Listening Room (NY), and local radio stations across the country. Thank you. Also on the Artist Faculty at the Brevard Music Center, Dr. McLin received her doctorate in violin performance from the University of Michigan. She holds additional performance degrees from Indiana University and the Oberlin College Conservatory, and for three years was an orchestral fellowship recipient at the Aspen Music Festival. Pianist Walter Cosand has been one of the most respected musicians in the southwestern USA for many years. His brilliance as a technician and his versatility and passion as a interpreter make him an audience favorite. Cosand excels constantly in the areas of contemporary music, Chamber music, concertos and solo recitals. Cosand studied with Joerg Demus, Cecile Genhart and Barry Snyder. He has won the Grand Prize from the International Piano Recording Competition as well as commissioning and recording grants from the NEA. Cosand can be heard on ACA Digital, Advance, ARF, Canyon, Centaur, JIGU, Koch and Summit Recordings. He is on the faculty of Arizona State University School of Music.
