She has enjoyed a vibrant career as a performer, educator, and entrepreneur. Deanna played tuba with the internationally recognized Dallas Brass and Western Brass Quintet and has performed hundreds of solo recitals throughout the United States and Europe . Prior to her appointment at Arizona State University in 2012, she served on the faculty at Western Michigan University and University of Nevada Las Vegas. Deanna Swoboda created and performs in an acclaimed band recruitment DVD , Band Blast Off and has supported and enhanced public school music programs by performing numerous educational concerts and presentations around the United States. A prominent area of her creative work is commissioning and recording new music for tuba, in particular the compositions of female composers. She holds degree from Arizona State University , Northwestern University, and University of Idaho. As a recording artist, her CDs include Deanna 's Wonderland (Summit) , Shamanic Journey (Potenza), and Games for Brass (Summit) . Deanna currently serves as Past President for the International Tuba Euphonium Association and is a Miraphone tuba artist. GAIL NOV AK, piano Gail Novak, a resident of Mesa, Arizona , is in demand as a collaborative artist in the United States and abroad. Gail performs at Arizona State University and in the Phoenix area with university faculty , students and guest artists, often performing over 80 recitals per year . She has served as an official accompanist for International Clarinet Association ClarinetFests , International Trumpet Guild, International Double Reed Conferences and the National Flute Conventions, the national trumpet competition, as well as being the featured collaborator at the Oklahoma Clarinet Symposium for many years in Norman, Oklahoma. Among her collaborators have been David Shifrin, Jon Manasse, and Larry Combs. Gail can be heard with great instrumentalists on Potenza, Crystal and Summit Records . JOHN ERICSON, horn One of the most visible hornists today, John Ericson has wide-ranging experience as an orchestral player, soloist, and teacher. Co-founder of the online magazine and resource Hom Matters, Ericson began his professional career with serving for six seasons as Third Hom in the Nashville Symphony . From there, he turned to full time teaching, first at the Crane School of Music (SUNY Potsdam), where he launched Hom Articles Online. Since 2001 he has served on the faculty at Arizona State University and is Brass Area Coordinator. Besides teaching at Arizona State University, in recent years Ericson has also served as artist faculty at the Interlochen Center for the Arts and the Brevard Music Center. He holds degrees from Indiana University , the Eastman School of Music, and Emporia State University . His two solo CDs on the Summit label received critical acclaim; The Horn Call hailed Les Adeiux for "Fantastic playing . . . The level of musicality, nuance and artistry is not to be missed" and called Canto a "Terrific collaboration between horn and piano." Author of six books and numerous articles, he has performed and presented sessions at eight international horn symposiums and numerous regional events. ***A special thanks to Sigma Alpha Iota for hosting a reception following this concert.
