Whether in the Opera House, on the Concert Stage, or in Recital, the "power and beauty" of his Tenor voice blended with the strength of his dramatic portrayals have earned Paglialllllga international acclaim. As a scholarship student, Mr. Paglialllllga earned the Master of Music Degree in Voice Performance from New England Conservatory of Music, as a student of Frederick Jagel, Boris Goldovsky, John Moriaty and Alan Rogers. Mr. Paglialllllga began his successful European career after receiving the prestigious Franck Hlllltington Beebe Flllld for Studies Abroad. As he established himself in Europe, he began to build his commanding repertoire of heroic lyric and bel canto protagonists with performances as Leading Italian Tenor in the opera companies ofKrefeld, MOnchengladback, Freiburg, Detmold, Innsbruck, and as a guest artist in Cologne, Bonn, Bielefield, Bremen, Braunshweig, Essen, Gelsenkirchen, Aachen, Lubeck, Wuppertal, and other companies throughout Northern and Western Germany. Paglialunga, with 60 leading roles in his repertoire, thrives on the challenging and demanding roles of the lyric stage, including Canio in I Pagliacci, Bacchus in Ariadne aufNaxos, Florestan in Fidelio, Don Alvaro in Las Forza des Destino, Dick Johnson in La Fanciu//a de/ West and the title roles in Otel/o, and Les contes d'Hoffmann. He is also known for some non-traditional roles .in Operas as well, including, Oedipus Rex by Stravinsky, Mathias in Der Evange/iman by Kiensel, and the leading tenor in the West German premiere of John Chicker's Das Spielvon Liebe und Tod. His acclaimed debut at the New York.City Opera as Don Jose in Carmen lead to other roles with that company, including Alfredo in La Traviata, and Turridu in Caval/eria Rusticana. The opera companies of Arizona, Baltimore, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Columbus, Dayton, Hawaii, Houston, Los Angeles, Michigan, Portland, Salt Lake City, Seattle, are among those in the United States and Canada that have staged many of his polished performances. Mr. Paglialunga covered the title role ofOtello for Placido Domingo with the Houston Grand Opera and sang Manrico opposite Sherill Milnes' Conte di Luna in the Cleveland Opera's production of II Trovatore. As a result of that performance, he was invited to appear as Radames in their production of Aida. For ten seasons, Paglialllllga performed operas, concerts, and recitals throughout Southeast Asia and China He has received critical acclaim in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Hong Kong, Singapore, Manila, Cebu, Jakarta, Bangkok, Taipei, Beijing and Shanghai. Mr. Paglialunga is also an accomplished concert singer and recitalist. His symphonic appearances began with the Wheeling Symphony in West Virginia, shortly after his studies at the New England Conservatory and include multiple appearances with the orchestras of Seattle, Pittsburgh, Rochester, the National Symphony Orchestra, and the orchestras of Bamberg, Krefeld, and Braumschweig, in Germany. His repertoire includes Handel's Messiah, Beethoven's Christus am Olberge and Symphony No. 9, Berlioz' Te Deum, Dubois' The Seven Last Words of Christ, Mahler's Symphony ofa Thousand, and Verdi's Requiem. On the recital stage he has skillfully interpreted the song cycles of Schubert's Die Winterreise and Die SchOne MOllerin, Brahm's Lieder aus dem Tieck's Magalone, and Mahler's ROckert Lieder. Xuelai Wu is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Collaborative Piano at Arizona State University under Dr. Andrew Campbell. Wu has enjoyed a very diverse musical career of which she has served as vocal coach, chamber musician, orchestral pianist, choir director, and piano teacher. She has worked with many of the greatest musicians in the United States including William Preucil, Jeffery Irvine, Robert Vernon, Mark Kosower, Stephen Geber, Richard Weiss, Joela Jones, Jaime Laredo, Sharon Robinson, Ivan Zenaty, Vinson Cole, and Augusto Paglialunga She has given many recitals in Austin, Beijing, Cleveland, Harbin, Phoenix, and Pittsburgh. She has played for many important Master Classes such as Warren Jones, Hartrnut HOii, and Joseph Kalichstein. She has served as staff accompanist at Music Settlement in Cleveland, the Franco-American Vocal Academy in Austin Texas, and is Currently an accompanist at Chandler-Gilbert Community College.
