Erla began her musical studies at the age of three in Hanover, Germany in Musikalische fri.iherziehung fi.ir Kinder before returning back to Iceland at the age of six where she studied in the Music School in Egilsstadir and later in Mosfellsba:r. During these years she chose to study the violin and later the trombone before starting singing lessons at the age of fifteen that eventually lead her into composition. She will graduate in June 2016 from the Icelandic Academy of the Arts with a BA degree in Composition . Her teacher is Hr6dmar I Sigurbjornsson.
