In addition to directing various instrumental ensembles, Caslor also mentors graduate conducting students, and teaches undergraduate and graduate conducting courses. From 2010-2015, Caslor served as Assistant Professor of Instrumental Conducting at Memorial University in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada where he conducted the Wind Ensemble and oversaw the undergraduate and graduate instrumental conducting programs. Prior to that, Jason spent three seasons as Resident Conductor with the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra (TBSO). During his tenure with the TBSO, he conducted over 75 concerts (including a CBC Radio national broadcast), designed and implemented numerous education and outreach initiatives, was instrumental in helping secure numerous local, provincial, and national grants, and recorded a fulllength, internationally distributed CD with Canadian blues artist Rita Chiarelli. Recipient of an “Excellence in Teaching Award” from the Memorial University of Newfoundland Students’ Union in 2012, Caslor also spent several years teaching in the public school system as an instrumental and choral instructor. His commitment to conductor training stemmed from being a faculty member with the annual Canadian Wind Conductors Development Program from 2005-2011. He is active as a clinician, adjudicator and conductor for festivals, honor bands and music camps. Caslor’s current research interests include developing a user-friendly iPad application that will allow for the transmission of high quality audio over the internet for the purposes of internet-based rehearsals/clinics, and spontaneous improvisation as it pertains to both conducting pedagogy and large ensembles. In addition to numerous regional engagements, he has presented his research at the 2013 College Band Directors National Association National Conference and the 2015 World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles International Conference. Caslor completed his Doctorate of Musical Arts (Conducting) at Arizona State University. Prior to earning a Master of Music (Conducting) degree from the University of Manitoba, Jason earned his Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Education degrees from the University of Saskatchewan. Kamna Gupta is currently pursuing her Masters of Music (Orchestral Conducting) degree at Arizona State University with Jeffery Meyer. Her diverse musical interests have led her to various experiences, including orchestral, operatic, and choral, in both baroque and contemporary repertoire. While still an undergraduate student, she led the Princeton University Glee Club in performance with the Leipzig Barockorchester in the Thomaskirche in Leipzig. From 2013-2015, she worked with the New York Youth Symphony as an apprentice conductor. Recently, she was a Conducting Fellow at the Atlantic Music Festival, recording many contemporary works. She is also active as a pianist and piano teacher. Kamna maintains a strong interest in music education and has worked with the New York Philharmonic and the Castleton Festival to expand their educational activities. Melanie Brooks is a first year D.M.A. candidate in wind conducting at Arizona State University with Professor Gary Hill. Last year, Brooks finished her M.M. degree in conducting from ASU. In 2014-2015, she received a Fulbright grant to study at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland. While in Finland, she conducted four of the country’s five professional military bands, worked at youth and adult music camps in Kouvola and Terälahti, directed student honor bands in Varkaus, Lahti, and Tampere, and visited music schools across the country. She also performed with the Sibelius Academy Wind Ensemble at the Midwest Clinic in Chicago as a saxophonist. Before beginning her graduate education, Brooks taught 5th grade and high school band in Pine City, MN for two years, directing two concert bands, jazz band, jazz combo, marching band, and pep band. Her first teaching job was at Bethlehem Academy in Faribault, MN, where she directed 5th grade band, 6th grade band, grades 7-12 band, jazz band, pep band, and marching band for one semester as a long-term substitute teacher. Brooks received her Bachelor of Arts from Saint Olaf College in Northfield, MN, where she performed with seven ensembles as a saxophonist and directed the college athletic bands. She has since performed several recitals with the Kaze Saxophone Quartet, premiering and commissioning new pieces written by Finnish composers Janne Ikonen and Jukka Viitasaari. Shannon Shaker is a first year D.M.A. candidate in wind conducting at Arizona State University, studying with Professor Gary W. Hill. She earned her MM in conducting in May 2016 from Central Michigan University, where she studied with Professor John E. Williamson. Prior to beginning graduate studies, Shannon taught music, band, and orchestra in both Michigan and Colorado public schools. She received her Bachelor of Music Education in May 2009 from Central Michigan University.
