) FANTASIA ORGAN ASU ORGAN SERIES ORGAN HALL MARCH 26, 2017 • 2:30 PM A511" Herberger Institute FOR DESIGN AND THE ARTS ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY Organist and choral conductor from New Zealand, Woosug Kang began his position as the Director of Music Ministries at St. George's Episcopal Church, Nashville, TN in 2016. He excels in Anglican choral tradition, and enjoys working with various ensembles of St. George's music ministry. Before St. George's, he was the Director of Music at St. Philip's In The Hills Episcopal Church in Tucson, AZ. He was responsible for all musical activities, including once a month integrating major choral and orchestral works with the traditional liturgy. He developed a Canterbury Apprentice program to educate young singers with changing voices and expose them to high-caliber choral repertoire. Under his direction, the chorister program grew to be one of the biggest Royal School of Church Music in the entire Southwest. In 2016, he took his choristers to UK for a week-long choral residency at historic Worcester Cathedral. Off the podium, Mr. Kang has performed both as a soloist and with various ensembles in the United States, New Zealand, Australia, and the UK. He was recently featured as the soloist for USA premiere of Organ Concerto by New Zealand composer John Wells with Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra in 2016. His recent and future engagements inelude a concert at the University of Arizona, Christ Church Cathedral in Nashville, TN and St. Bartholomew in Atlanta, GA. His experience as the Belinda Godfrey Organ Scholar of Holy Trinity Auckland Cathedral, and the organist of Music Sacra, Inc in New Zealand, showcased his skill as a liturgical organist through concerts, concert tours, Evensongs, live radio broadcasts, and TV broadcasts. He is a DMA in organ performance candidate at Indiana University, where he studied with Dr. Larry Smith and Todd Wilson. During his Master's at Yale, he studied organ with Prof. Thomas Murray, improvisation with Dr. William Porter, and harpsichord with late Prof. Richard Rephai:m. He has taught organ at my levels including at the University of Arizona during Dr. Pamela Decker's sabbatical. Mr. Kang is the founding artistic director of Friends of Music at Emanuel, Inc; a non-profit organization to enrich the community through musical concerts in Connecticut, and is their Artistic Director Emeritus.
