This report is Volume III and contains weather station statistics. On-line users of this document have additional resources available by selecting hyperlinks. Weather Station names will link to the FCDMC web page for that weather station. Other hyperlinks will link within the document. All weather stations report temperature and relative humidity; many also report a combination of wind direction, wind speed, barometric pressure, and solar radiation. In addition, dewpoint temperature is calculated every 15 minutes at all weather stations using the temperature and relative humidity data. The temperature, relative humidity, and wind sensors transmit data every 15 minutes; the barometric pressure and solar radiation sensors every 30 minutes. The following paragraphs describe the arrangement, collection, and compilation of the monthly weather station data contained in this report: • Weather station data presented in the monthly weather summaries are based on the “2025 Water Year” which began on Oct. 1st, 2024, and ended Sept. 30th, 2025. Each monthly summary represents one weather station and lists daily weather station statistics by sensor. The monthly summaries are arranged chronologically and by station name. • An index of ALERT System weather stations, code names, locations, and installation dates are located on page viii. This is followed by a sensor id number matrix listing the available sensors at each weather station. Both indexes are sorted by station name in alphabetical order. Station names are hyper-linked to additional weather station information and climate summaries (where available). • The monthly weather summaries contain daily maximum, minimum, and mean values for temperature and dewpoint. The monthly summaries also contain daily maximum and minimum values for relative humidity and barometric pressure. Finally, the monthly summaries contain daily maximum peak wind and solar radiation values. All of the ALERT system weather stations record precipitation; however, that data is located in the FCDMC Hydrologic Data Report Volume I. • The unit of measurement for daily maximum, minimum, and mean temperature data is in degrees Fahrenheit (˚F). The daily maximum, minimum, and mean dewpoint data are also in degrees Fahrenheit (˚F). The daily maximum and minimum relative humidity data are in percent (%). The daily maximum peak wind data are in miles per hour (mph). The daily maximum and minimum barometric pressure are in millibars (mb). The daily maximum solar radiation data are in watts per square meter (w/m2). • All data presented in the weather summaries are rounded to the nearest whole value. Additional and/or more detailed sensor data in hard copy or electronic copy are available for the weather station sensors listed in this report. Very dry and climatologically warm conditions throughout the Desert Southwest prevailed October through December. During this period, widespread mean temperature anomalies across southcentral Arizona reached +3-5°F, while precipitation ranged from 0 to less than 20 percent of normal. Precipitation opportunities remained limited for the rest of the winter and early spring, only accounting for variable spatial relief between 20-70 percent of normal across most of Arizona. Temperatures through March returned to near seasonable before trending above normal April through June. Portions of the Desert Southwest became unusually wet preceding the official start of Monsoon 2025 (June 15th). Pacific low pressure systems tapped into subtropical moisture allowing for thunderstorms and heavy rainfall, particularly over western Arizona. Precipitation for much of Arizona, including Metro Phoenix, exceeded 200-400+ percent normal for the April through June period. Late June through early August ended very dry due to relentless Pacific troughing resulting in dry southwesterly flow. Consequently, deeper monsoon moisture and daily summertime thunderstorms were largely confined to New Mexico and far southeastern Arizona. A Four Corners Monsoon High placement by late August increased diurnal thunderstorm activity further west into Arizona. Even so, rainfall remained well below average through August. There was a favorable monsoon transition weather pattern during September. The result was excessive tropical moisture from the East Pacific often steered into the Desert Southwest leading to multiple severe thunderstorm outbreaks. Consequently, total monsoon precipitation was highly Annual Hydrologic Data Report, Volume III – Weather – 2801 W Durango St., Phoenix, AZ 85009 (602) 506-1501 Page 15 skewed by prolific late summer and early fall thunderstorm activity. Otherwise, mean temperatures to end the WY between July and September were mild to warm having a +1-5°F degree departure from normal. More detailed weather and rainfall information on this past monsoon is available here. As a final summary note, according to Oceanic Nino Index tracking from NOAA, the entire Water Year 2025 was not influenced by a defined El Niño or La Niña as slightly cooler water anomalies in the East Pacific Basin represented persistent “Neutral” conditions. The National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center (CPC) provides more scientific background on the potential influence of El Niño/La Niña episodes on Southwest U.S. precipitation. Table 6 below shows average temperature data across the entire ALERT weather station network for Water Year 2025. Anomalies and ranks were calculated using data between 2000 and 2025. Overall, the mean temperature across all stations for Water Year 2025 was 72.9˚F, which was 1.1˚F warmer than the long-term network average of 71.7˚F and ranks as the 5th warmest WY on record. Looking at the anomaly data (not shown), 30 weather stations had a warm bias above respective long-term averages with the warmest being +4.0˚F. Camelback @ Loop 303, City of Glendale, and South Mountain Fan stations observed their warmest mean WY temperatures on record. There were 9 stations cooler than their long-term average ranging between -0.1°F to -3.6°F anomaly. Those stations represent suburban, rural, foothill, and mountainous environments. Note the recently installed Ellsworth Channel DPC station was not included in mean and anomaly temperature evaluations due to limited observations. Table 6: ALERT Network Temperature Statistics for Water Year 2025 Statistic Avg Temp (˚F) Avg Max Temp (˚F) Avg Min Temp (˚F) Value 72.9 84.5 61.0 Anomaly +1.1 +0.8 +1.0 5th Warmest 6th Warmest 7th Warmest +1.00 +0.68 +0.72 Rank (2000-2025) Standardized Anomaly The average maximum temperature across all stations for WY2025 was 84.5˚F, which was 0.8˚F warmer than the long-term network average of 83.7˚F. This ranked as the 6th warmest WY on record. There were 30 weather stations warmer than their respective long-term mean maximum temperatures as warm as +3.4°F anomaly with 10 having cooler anomalies as cool as -5.4°F. City of Glendale, EMF @ Arizona Ave., and South Mountain Fan set new warm WY average maximum temperatures. No new daily maximum temperatures were set during Water Year 2025. The average minimum temperature across all stations was 61.0˚F, which was 1.0˚F warmer than the long-term network average of 60.0˚F. Water Year 2025 ranked 7th warmest on record. There were 25 stations registering warm anomalies with the highest being +4.2°F; however, 11 stations representing a variety of environments, including high elevation, rural desert, and urban, had average minimum temperature anomalies between -0.2°F to -2.5°F. Camelback @ Loop 303 set a new warm WY average minimum temperature. The Mobile site set a new cooler WY average minimum temperature. The Aguila VFD station was the only location establishing a new daily minimum temperature record during Water Year 2025 (see Figure 3).
