OFF THE EDITOR'S DESK . plenty to for everyone /■ ]/> U U To EVERY student at Arizona State. . . Ever hear the complaint, “There’s nothing to do on this campus?” Maybe you have and maybe you haven’t . . . but, if you hear anyone saying it tonight, th ey’re either dead wrong or pretty darn misinformed. And here’s what w e mean. WE WOULD venture to say that there is something happening tonight that w ill interest nearly every ASU student. And, unfortunately, there is more than one event which will interest many students . . . therefore, they w ill-have to make a choice and turn down one (or more than one) event. On tap for tonight is a commando basketball game under the sponsorship of the Letterm an’s Club. It be gins at 8 in the new gym and w ill cost 50 cents. Majoi event number tw o, as & part of the Concert, "and ’L ectuie Series, is Sestetto Italiano, ’ an outstanding ^ singers frorti Italy. It begins at 8:15 m e U Ballroom and is fie e to activity card holders, LESS THAN a block away from both the above ev, ents is the Phi Kappa Tau-Kappa Delta Jazz Festival, featuring some top names in that field. Taking place on the lawn between the Agriculture and "Business buildings, this event w ill run from 6 td 9 p.m. and is also cost-free. It is obvious that a lack of coordination exists . . . otherwise, someone sbmewhere would have prevented three crowd-drawing activities from being scheduled for the same night. The fact that all three are to take place on campus is equally hard to understand. WE ARE UNDER the impression that the master calendar was created for this purpose ter prevent the doubling up of activities. If jjjjj is not so, then w e would like to know what its purpose is. Nevertheless, they are now scheduled. So, for once, there is plenty to do right here on campus. Now all you have to do is decide which w ill give you the most enjoym ent . .. and go see (or hear) it. Or you could do like w e’re going to do and head for Tucson and watch some of the best high school basket ball in the state in the AA division playoffs. tra n sp la n te d p ro fesso r, fo r in su m m ertim e , no o n e could to le ra te b ein g o u td o o rs fo r an y g re a t le n g th o f tim e. .... In short, it’s tim e now for campus groups to begin serious preparations to guarantee a rousing send-off for our team. It’s time now to start planning the rallies, pa rades and parties that should accompany their depart ure from and return to ASU. More important, it’s tim e now for all students at this university, Greek and inde pendent, liberal and conservative, off campus and on, to forget their petty differences by uniting in open, ardent support of our team. It’s a great chance for groups like Off Campus Men, The Interfraternity Council, etc. to make positive contributions to school spirit. And it’s tim e some of our dorms started hoisting a few banners and posters to start the ball rolling! Greeks at a Glance . Looks like the Greeks are taking a backseat these days to the vastly increasing wave of dorm social func tions. Of course, now that the Adephi fraternities are being threatened w ith debtor’s prison by Housing, the lids m ay have been nailed tight on many treasuries. Probably, however, the reason for this m omentary slump in Greek socializing rests primarily with the bulge of fraternity and sorority elections now in progress, the resylts of which should appear on one of these pages in the near future. Biggest of the current campus collections, despite the slump, is once again under Greek guidance. The Alpha Phi Heart Fund, a charity project combining a w orthy cause, pretty girls and good public relations for ASU, reaches its clim ax tonight with a dance, at which the Heart Fund Queen w ill be announced. Speakmg of public relations, Alpha Tau Omega racked up points recently when their pledges put in work at the Arizona State Crippled Children’s Home during their Help Week. Seem s like an irrefutable defense against the traditional charges of fraternity hazing! Turning to the fem inine side of things w e see that Alpha Sigma Alpha staged an exciting steak and beans dinner Sunday afternoon at the Verde river. A ctives ate the steaks; pledges ate beans. Kappa Kappa Gammas w ill hold a M other-Daughter Tea Sunday from 2-4 p m. at the Sands. « 1 VU1 1 U ine tow n Our future is in the hands of men not yet hired At Western Electric, we play a. vital role in helping meet the complex needs of America’s vast communications networks.
