W hen th e application is act­ ed upon, it is anticipated th a t th e construction perm it for, th e new television station w ill be granted by the FCC w ithin the n e x t 30 days, Mr. Bell said. W ith th e construction perm it, th e bureau engineers w ill b e­ gin converting th e present KVAR tran sm itter fo r bro ad ­ cast on C h a n n e l'8. KVAR, w hich announced its plans to m ove to high power last spring, plans to sell th eir present • tran sm itter and con­ trib u te th e ir tow er and an ­ tenna tó th e ASU channel w ith th e com pletion of th e ir new ad ­ ditions. T he new facilities are now nearing completion. A ccording to present plans, C hannel 8 w ill go on th e air th e first d ay of classes, Sept. 13. The station w ill broadcast from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., M onday Newly-appointed ASU President G. Homer Durham will assume his new duties sometime between Septem­ ber and December. The appointment of the nationally known political science and the present vice president of the University of Utah was announced Tuesday by W. R. Mathews, president of the Board of Regents. Mr. M athews said Dr. D u rham w as the final choice of a regent’s selection committee Which “had w orked very care­ fully over the past m onths, ex ­ am ining the records of m ore than 80 possible candidates.” Dr. D urham is 49 and a n a ­ tive of Iron County, Utah. He has been vice president of the U niversity of Utah since F ebruary 1953. H e received a bachelor of a rts degree in history and po­ litical science from th e U ni­ versity of California a t Los Angeles in 1939. .
