ASASU sponsored accident and illness insurance and Education board activities highlighted the Exec utive council meeting Friday. It was revealed that out of 1,000 policies issued this year, 151 claims had been paid through April. Of these, 109 covered the entire medical bill. There is a possibility that the $23.55 insurance rate for single students may be raised to $24 next year. ASASU President Tom Hulen said commercial rates are nearly 3 times high er. The company, which re ceives a two percent profit on premiums, hopes 40 percent of the students will sign up next year. In order to widen the pro gram, it was suggested that stu dents be enrolled each semester and that sororities and frater nities “push” the plan. Education Board chairman John Singleton reported that'he had conferred with Acting ASU President H. D. Richardson on student problems. He said Dr. Richardson was unsympathetic on the problem of ROTC Hon ors Night scheduled for May 27, and mathematic finals the fol lowing morning. Richardson is reported to have said “I think it will be given attention ano ther year . . . too late to do any thing now.” Oil the operation of a cooper ative bookstore, Singleton in dicated that members will Study other college operations during the summer and will then make a recommendation for ASU. He also asked for a com mittee to fight compulsory ROTC. This wouid be the offi cial student-government ans wer to the student-faculty re port which suggested compul sory ROTC be retained. Singleton also suggested a student Management senior be appointed to manage the Sahuaro. He would get course cre dit and possibly a salary. Ano ther student could handle edi torial duties.
