The subject m atter of the column concerned the new (started last year) baseball box scores w hich em phasized b a t ting and pitching and gave fielding “a rude snoot.” Since I ft* into this sports editor category (if only on a cam pus-run, voice of th e ad m inistration, rubbish h e a p , second-rate scale), I feel I should answ er because I have a couple of ideas myself. Regarding fielding, 'if an y body cares to keep a close Check on any one player (hom etown favorite, relative, or a guy who owes you m oney), the Sporting News retained the old style box score last year, including putouts and assists. Also, the Snorting News c a r ries lengthy stories on all the -major league team s, batting and pitching averages (some thing, alas, we never see- in the Republic or t h e -■Gazette on a m ajor league scale), and .lfeatures, features, features (how Sarp Clod, U.
