That equates to an average of 7,330 cases filed among the Arizona courts every working day.  Case filings during FY 2016 decreased by 4.4% overall, while revenue decreased by 2.0%. The trend in decreasing revenue continues to be driven by the overall decline in both criminal and civil traffic filings in the limited jurisdiction courts.  The Supreme Court experienced an increase of 2.4% in case filings from FY 2015 to FY 2016. Filings in the court of appeals were unchanged with 3,615 filings in FY 2016, compared to 3,594 in FY 2015.  Superior Court case filings decreased by 1.0% statewide, from 190,611 in FY 2015 to 188,720 in FY 2016. Filings in the civil and juvenile categories decreased by 6.2% and 2.9%, respectively. Probate case filings increased by 8.3% and mental health filings increased by 9.5% from FY 2015 to FY 2016. There was minimal change in filings of criminal and domestic relations cases during the same period.  Within the Superior Court juvenile case category, juvenile delinquency filings decreased by 9.6% while adoption filings increased by 7.1%. Juvenile dependency filings were flat from FY 2015 to FY 2016, but up 28.2% from FY 2012.  Filings in the limited jurisdiction courts decreased by 4.7% or 132,104 filings statewide. These cases account for 89.9% of the total filings statewide. The decrease in filings was primarily driven by a 5.5% decrease in civil traffic filings and 7.3% decrease in misdemeanor filings.  Overall filings in the Justice Courts increased by 0.7% from 709,521 in FY 2015, to 714,778 in FY 2016. An increase of 4.7% in civil traffic cases offset an 8.3% decrease in the misdemeanor category and 5.5% decrease in the civil-forcible detainer category.  Municipal Court case filings decreased by 8.3% statewide. Criminal traffic, civil traffic, and misdemeanor categories all experienced significant decreases in filings while the local noncriminal category increased.  Civil traffic filings account for 54.5% of all case filings in the Justice and Municipal Courts statewide. Civil traffic filings decreased by 54,302, or 5.5% from FY 2015 to FY 2016.  57,845 DUI charges were filed in Justice and Municipal Courts during FY 2016. This represents a decrease of 4,775 filings, or 7.6%. There were 432 pending cases on July 1, 2015, compared to 418 pending cases on June 30, 2016. COURT OF APPEALS, DIVISION ONE  Total filings decreased by 1.0%, from 2,726 in FY 2015 to 2,698 in FY 2016.  Case terminations increased by 3.9%, from 2,457 during FY 2015 to 2,553 during FY 2016.  Pending caseload increased by 3.6%, from 2,276 on July 1, 2015 to 2,357 on June 30, 2016. COURT OF APPEALS, DIVISION TWO  Filings increased by 5.6%, from 868 in FY 2015 to 917 in FY 2016. Total cases that were terminated by judgment decreased by 6.3% from FY 2015.  As of June 30, 2016, 690 cases were pending in the tax court. Case terminations decreased by 6.0% during the same period.  Civil case filings decreased by 6.2% from 48,807 in FY 2015 to 45,766 in FY 2016. During the same period, civil case terminations decreased by 20.7% from 57,587 to 45,677.  Criminal filings were unchanged with 51,599 filings during FY 2016, compared to 51,549 filed during FY 2015. Criminal case terminations decreased by 6.6% during the same period, from 52,629 to 49,133.  Domestic relations case filings were also unchanged with 50,748 filings in FY 2016 compared to 51,739 in FY 2015. Domestic relations case terminations increased by 4.4% from 50,498 to 52,707. Petitions for orders of protection decreased by 3.2% in Superior Court, from 12,991 in FY 2015 to 12,569 in FY 2016.  Total pending caseload increased by 2.7% from 208,944 on July 1, 2015 to 214,534 on June 30, 2016.  Juvenile cases with direct filings into adult court increased from 183 in FY 2015, to 215 in FY 2016. Juvenile cases transferred to adult court decreased by 77.3%, from 22 in FY 2015 to 5 in FY 2016. A total of 220 juvenile cases were either transferred or directly filed into adult court in FY 2016 compared to 205 in FY 2015, an increase of 7.3%.  A total of 7,666 juvenile dependency petitions were filed in FY 2016 which is consistent with the 7,643 petitions filed in FY 2015. Criminal case terminations increased 8.8% from 136,562 in FY 2015 to 148,526 in FY 2016.  Domestic violence petition filings increased 4.2% in justice courts, from 8,734 to 9,102. Total case terminations decreased by 6.2% during the same period.  Civil and criminal traffic filings, which comprise about three-fourths of all municipal court cases, decreased 10.2%, from 793,766 in FY 2015 to 713,023 in FY 2016.  Criminal misdemeanor case filings decreased 7.0% from 210,221 in FY 2015 to 195,600 in FY 2016. Criminal misdemeanor case terminations decreased 9.2% from 267,969 in FY 2015 to 243,330 in FY 2016.  Domestic violence petitions decreased 1.8% from 13,484 in FY 2015 to 13,238 in FY 2016. JUVENILE COURT PETITIONS  A total of 13,790 petitions were filed in FY 2016, a 4.4% decrease from the 14,430 petitions filed in FY 2015.  A total of 12,795 petitions were terminated in FY 2016, a 10.6% decrease from the 14,306 terminated in FY 2015.
