AZ. Auto Theft Authority News & Updates November 2009 ________________________________________________________________________ 2009 4th Quarter Auto Theft Campaign In Full Swing On October 3rd, the 2009 Auto Theft Prevention project was launched in Tempe with the AATA, statewide law enforcement agencies, Winner International, Checker Auto and Pep Boy's Auto Stores. Events have been planned through December with Winner International generously donating a limited supply of steering wheel locks for the events and offering rebate coupons for "Clubs" redeemable at any Checker or Pep Boy's Auto stores in Arizona through December 31st. According to Winner International spokesman, Garry Bonanno, "these agencies hosting vehicle theft prevention events provides a very proactive approach in educating residents and encouraging their participation in taking responsibility in helping police to protect and secure their property." Visit the AATA website for a complete listing of events. Thank you to all project partners for this outstanding opportunity! AATA Implementing Efficiency & Cost Savings Strategies This year the AATA has been striving to implement new technology and develop smart business practices aimed at increasing efficiency and reducing costs. Our staff continues to look for ways to trim operational costs while improving productivity. Thank you to Watch Your Car customer, John P. for his suggestion last month to include an on-line WYC replacement decal request on our website. This feature was implemented in October and we look forward to any other suggestions from our partners and customers. Additional State Budget Cuts Could Mean End to Popular Community Programs In FY's 2009 & 2010, the Auto Theft Fund, designated for statewide auto theft reduction programs, has been reduced by nearly $1 million; with additional 15% proposed cuts ($822,195) possible before the end of the fiscal year (June 30th). These reductions have and will continue to have a negative impact on several popular statewide community programs, including: The Watch Your Car Program, Auto Theft Prevention & VIN Etching Events, Police Bait Car Programs. These dedicated funds have been instrumental in reducing auto thefts in Arizona since 2003 by over 38%. Youth Volunteer Corp to Host AATA Holiday VIN Etching Clinics AATA Staff along with our Youth Volunteer Corp will be hosting VIN etching clinics the week of December 21st at the AATA Office - 1400 W.
