It has since gone to the Senate Judiciary Committee where it was passed by a vote of 7-0. The bill, sponsored by Representative Michele Reagan, helps to eliminate some of the concerns that have been raised in the past by both traditional and participating candidates. Among other things, the bill increases the amount of money that participating statewide candidates receive from the Fund (30% increase for the Governor’s race and 60% for the other statewide races). It exempts traditional candidates from filing a “trigger’ report if there are no participating candidates in the race. The bill also reduces the amount of equalizing funds given to participating candidates by 5% to account for a traditional candidate’s fundraising costs. New Rules Proposed On February 15th the Citizens Clean Elections Commission began the process of making changes to existing rules that govern a candidate’s campaign. While some of the changes are nothing more then clean up to ensure consistency, others are substantial. That is why the Commission is asking for your help. Over the next 60 days the Commission will be accepting public comments on the proposed rule changes. Please take the time to review the proposed changes and let the Commission know your thoughts. The changes can be viewed on the Commission’s website at www.azcleanelections.gov or call us at either 602-364-3477 or toll free 1-877-631-8891 and a copy will be mailed to you.
