Domestic Violence Shelter Fund Report for SFY 2011 Arizona Department of Economic Security Domestic Violence Shelter Fund Report SFY 2011 (A.R.S. § 36-3007) FISCAL YEAR 2011 DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SHELTER FUND REPORT This report represents data collection under the reporting system pursuant to A.R.S. § 36-3007. In preparing the report the Department of Economic Security (DES) consulted with the state coalition against domestic violence. The reporting system provides information on the population served, the types and usage of the services provided within the shelter, and the unmet needs of persons receiving shelter. The amount of $2.2 million is appropriated from the Domestic Violence Shelter Fund (DVSF), which is 15 percent of the total funds that the DES had available for domestic violence emergency shelters. This shelter fund report is based upon fiscal year 2011 information that is available from the DES statewide contractor reporting system. POPULATION SERVED The total of adults and children, 9,769, received services in 29 shelters located in 12 counties. Of the total number served, in emergency shelter, children represent 48 percent. THE SERVICES PROVIDED During the year, 332,967 nights of shelter were provided to adults and children. The shelters provided 157,615 hours of case management, individual and group counseling and legal advocacy. The average length of stay in emergency shelter is 29 days. In addition, 28,273 hotline calls were received during fiscal year 2011. The largest segment of residents served is adults between the ages of 30-44. The average stay in shelter is between five and 30 days; however, a significant percentage, 36 percent, remain in shelter up to 90 days. UNMET NEEDS OF PERSONS WHO RECEIVE SERVICES The primary need across the state is child care and housing which includes transitional housing; and stable affordable housing.
