TOWN OF DEWEYHUMBOLDT 10TH
ANNIVERSARY
In December 2014, the
Town will celebrate the 10th
Anniversary of it’s incorporation. Mayor and Town
Council wish to thank all former Mayors and Councils,
former and current Board/
Committee/Commission
Members, Citizens and Staff
Members for their vital contribution to the Town’s wellbeing.
An informal gathering is
being planned to commemorate the Town’s Incorporation Anniversary.

The official results of the August 26,
2014, Dewey-Humboldt Candidate Election are as follows:

Our newest elected officials will be
sworn in at the December 2, 2014, regular Council meeting at 6:30 p.m.

COMMUNITY
DEVELOPMENT CORNER
ANIMAL CODE DIALOG
At Town Council’s direction, Town
Planning and Zoning Commission and
Staff continues the effort of reviewing
town code sections regarding animals.
In September, Staff met with Yavapai
County Sheriff’s Office. Along with policing services, YCSO also provides animal
control services to the Town citizens. The
Staff meeting was productive and YCSO
is completely on board to collaborate with
Town Officials and Citizens on this review
process. We spoke about enforcement
matters of Town Code of Ordinances
Chapter 90 Animals (Please note that animals are also regulated in Chapter 153
Zoning Regulations; Chapter 153 is enforced by Town code enforcement personnel).
In an effort to continue the “animal
code” dialogue with D-H residents, Staff
has scheduled another Citizen Outreach
Meeting for 5pm Wednesday, October
8th, at “Scoopz Ice Cream” located in

FESTIVAL TIME!

That’s right, it’s that time of the Year
and on October 4th and 5th the Agua Fria
Festival will be in Full Swing at Riata Pass
at 3525 South Hwy 69 in Humboldt.
It is the 110th year of the Festival and
coming this December is the anniversary
of our Towns Incorporation. While this
year’s festival is unable to have a parade
there will still be lots of fun with the live
Band Concerts on the big stage starting at
12 Noon both days and featuring Chris
Berry and the Retrofitter, Damokleez and
Raven. Vendors, Food Court with Famous
Lucky’s Barbeque Smoked on Site. A fun
for all Kid’s Midway, Train Rides and more.

and Health Services at the Agua Fria
Festival, October 4-5 at Riata Pass
(3525 S. Hwy 69). Stop by for information and fun activities for kids and
adults on water-related and other environmental issues.
Water experts will be on hand to
talk about water testing and treatment.

you would like help
understanding the
results. Look for the
colored spinning
trivia wheel, and join
us for some safe
drinking water fun!

might be especially informative as the
Humboldt Water System company [NOT a
Town utility] has reported, in a notice dis-

tributed to users 8/27/14, that it once
again violated drinking water standards.
Test results from 7/20/14 show twice the
acceptable level of arsenic in the water.)

CALLING ALL LOCAL
BLOOD HEROES
The October blood drive is almost here. Now is the time to help
save lives, and don’t doubt that you
really do! One young lady has had
over one hundred transfusions as
her body can't manufacture red
blood cells. She is beautiful, bright
and intelligent, and you may have
helped to save her life.
The next drive is October 21st
at the Humboldt Bible Church on Old
Black Canyon Highway. It starts at
2:00pm. There will be homemade
cookies and treats for all BLOOD
DONORS. Please come and support your community.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY
DOINGS
The Dewey-Humboldt Historical
Society is having 2 Mine Trips in October. The trips will be to the Union
Mine on October 11th and October
25th. Please pack a lunch, water,
and a hat, and join guides Kevin
Leonard and John Young for a nice
outdoor adventure. You will meet on
Main St. Dewey-Humboldt at 7:30
a.m. 4-wheel-drive vehicles are recommended, and there will be “sharea-ride” if room.

On October 18th from Noon to
4pm, the Dewey-Humboldt Museum
will host a Local Author Book Signing
at the Museum. There
will be several prominent authors
such as
Garry Rogers, Kevin
Leonard, the Pioneer Ladies, and
many more. Refreshments will be
provided. Please come out and support our local talent of authors and
enjoy the fun.

GUIDE TO CALLING 911
9-1-1 NEEDS TO KNOW WHERE TO
GO. When calling 9-1-1, one of the first
things you’ll be asked to provide is the
location of the emergency you’re reporting. The call taker may not automatically
know your location or may ask you to confirm it. Provide as much detail on your
location as possible, such as landmarks,
cross streets and mileposts.
REMAIN CALM, BE PREPARED.
Try to stay calm, give information and
follow all instructions. Professional calltakers are trained to get information from
you. Listen carefully and answer as concisely as possible. Remember that even if
the dispatcher is still asking questions.
HELP 9-1-1 HELP YOU. The more
you know what to expect when you call 91-1, the faster 9-1-1 can get you the help
you need. You can save a life! Follow all
instructions the 9-1-1 call taker gives you,
and don’t hang up until the call taker
does. If you get cut off, call back and
explain that you were cut off.

LIBRARY NEWS

Fall is in the air. To celebrate,
your Dewey-Humboldt Town Library
has some special events all October
long for you to enjoy, including a Special Guest speaker, Book Sales, British
Entertainment, Halloween crafts, Story
Time, fun Afternoon Games, a great
Book Discussion, and much more!
And, while you are here, use our great
computers, check out some fun books,
and find some entertaining movies too!
The BIG FALL BOOK SALE, run
by the Friends of the Library, starts on
Thursday, October
30th from 12:30 to
7:30, continues on
Friday, October
31st and Saturday,
November 1st
from 9 to 4, and the next week on November 6th from 12:30 to 7:30, and
November 7th and 8th from 9 to 4.
The J.W. Mitchell Room (lower floor—
Prescott Street entrance) will be filled
with gift quality books, DVD and VHS
movies, audio books, games, puzzles
and other items for sale. Find great
Christmas presents for your friends
and family! Books for all ages and
reading interests will be available.
Most paperbacks are $0.25, most trade
paperbacks are $0.50, and most hard
backs are $1.00. If an item has a different price, it will be marked on the
item. The last day of the sale, Saturday, November 8,
will be our $5.00 per
Bag Sale. Place
as many items as
you can in a bag
provided by the library and pay only
$5 for all the items!

players. Fun for all! No signup is
required.
The library has a weekly activity for adults, US Fans of UK Entertainment, on Saturday Afternoons at 1pm,.on October 18th
and 25th. The group’s goal is to
enjoy, share, and discuss British
entertainment. The group is viewing the brand new series 8 of Doctor
Who, starring Peter Capaldi, the
new, 12th, Doctor, and Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald, on our 90”
movie screen. Two episodes will be
screened on each date in October.

The Dewey-Humboldt IONS
(Institute of the Noetic Sciences)
meets on Tuesday, October 7th from
10:30am – 12:30pm. The group will
welcome guest speaker JoAnne
Dodgson, Ed.D, who will introduce
the group to Shamanistic Healing in
the ways of Ka Ta See, as practiced
by an ancient Peruvian Tribe. She
will also lead a demonstration of a
bone throwing ceremony. Refreshments will be provided for the event.
New members and visitors are always
welcome.
The library’s Book Discussion
Group meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 9:30am. The
discussion members are reading Pigs
in Heaven, the sequel to the hit
book The Bean Trees, both by Barbara Kingsolver. The group will discuss this book, talk about the plot and
the characters, plus have fun causal
discussion too! We welcome new
participants to join
the meetings; so,
come pick up a
copy, read the
book, and then
come for the discussion. Light refreshments will be
provided for this fun
and lively event

PUMPKIN BREAD














1 1/2 cup sugar
1 1/2 cup pumpkin
1 1/3 cup oil
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
3 eggs
1 cup chopped walnuts
2 1/4 cup flour

Mix all ingredients in large bowl, adding in order. In 4 small or 2 large
greased bread pans, bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until toothpick
comes out clean.
