Data Notes General: All data are for calendar year 2000. Population: Some individuals did not provide zip codes and therefore can't be placed in a district. These individuals are counted in the total population for the County, but are not in the district counts. Similarly, some individuals did not provide an age, and therefore, do not appear in the age distribution chart. This will sometimes result in columns or rows adding up to less than the overall number. Dependency Ratio: In this report, the dependency ratio is the number of people in the district who are under 20 and over 64 years of age divided by the number of people in the district who are between 20 and 64. The higher the number, the greater the dependency on the 20-64 age group. (Traditional dependency ratios may be calculated differently.) Population & Health Statistics: Some zip codes exist in one or more districts. Therefore, some individuals are counted in two districts simultaneously. Since there is no way to identify which district the individual lives in, this is the only reporting option. Health Statistics: The category “encephalitis and meningitis” includes amoebic, bacterial, and viral cases. “Motor vehicle accidents” and “drowning” are subsets of the unintentional injury category. Healthy People 2010: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention provide Healthy People 2010 goals for only some diseases. A “-“ indicates that no goal has been set for that indicator. In contrast, a “0” indicates that the goal is zero. Published May 23, 2002 File: HSR – Word Final
