The majority of the data used in the analysis is from the 2000 Census conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau. Post-2000 data are estimates. Please be aware that the Census Bureau changes the categories and structure of information requested of the American public from one Census to the next. October 2005 Demographic Trends - City of Scottsdale 5 DEMOGRAPHIC TRENDS ANALYSIS Analysis of demographic trends provides data necessary for and relevant to the economic and social fabric of a community. The Demographic Trends Analysis provides data on the City of Scottsdale as a whole and, for comparison purposes, breaks the City into 5 Planning Zones. These Zones were established based on residential, commercial, and community features in each area. Each of the five Planning Zones has unique characteristics that combine to create a diverse and exceptional community. The data in this report was collected from the U.S. Census Bureau and the Maricopa County Association of Governments (MAG). October 2005 Demographic Trends - City of Scottsdale 6 JENNY LYNN CIRCLE MOUNTAIN HONDA BOW ROCKAWAY HILLS DESERT HILLS JOY RANCH ZONE A includes the Downtown Business/ Entertainment District, the Indian Bend Park System, and the most mature neighborhoods in the community STAGECOACH PASS CAREFREE HWY. DOVE VALLEY E LONE MOUNTAIN ZONE B includes the Scottsdale Airpark, the fastest growing and one of the three largest employment centers in the metropolitan area DIXILETA DYNAMITE ZONE C covers the East Shea area, Scottsdale Ranch, McDowell Mountain Ranch, and part of the McDowell Mountains Preserve JOMAX HAPPY VALLEY PINNACLE PEAK ZONE D includes Grayhawk, DC Ranch, the Pinnacle Peak and Desert Highlands communities, several Troon communities, the Sonoran Regional Core employment center along Loop 101 Freeway, and the northern part of the McDowell Mountains Preserve D DEER VALLEY BEARDSLEY OUTER LOOP FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT BLVD. The southernmost area contains neighborhoods typical of the 1960’s and early 1970’s. The northern part of the zone contains large, master-planned communities built in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. Much of the City’s retail, entertainment, and office activities are located in this zone. GREENWAY THUNDERBIRD SWEETWATER CACTUS CHOLLA SHEA Though relatively small, Zone B is packed with economic activity and a concentrated population base. The Scottsdale Airpark, home to over 2,200 businesses is located within this zone. The resident population in the area resides mainly in higher-density single-family homes, town homes, condominiums, and apartments. Zone D is dominated by master-planned communities built in the mid– to late 1980’s. Many of these communities include golf courses. Relatively little commercial development exists within this zone.
