The Town Council has decided to conduct a Community Survey in the coming weeks to gain a better understanding of how Community Members feel about current government activities and future priorities. The Mayor and Town Council respect the opinions and needs of the citizenry and want to hear your voice so that they may better serve the Town as it moves into an increasingly complex future. The Town of Dewey-Humboldt needs your input to create a path for prosperity and to maintain the quality of life that is valued by its citizens. The survey will be conducted by Yavapai College's Regional Economic Development Center using multiple approaches to garner the greatest response rate from the community. A sample of residential homes will receive the survey by mail, the survey will also be available at Town Hall for any community member that was not part of the residential sample. Additionally, the survey will be conducted in-person through the months of December and January at the community center and various local gathering places. Your input is valued and appreciated. Thank you for your time and consideration with this project. For questions regarding the survey, please contact Alex Wright, YCREDC Director, at 928-776-2378 or Yvonne Kimball, Town Manager, at 928-632-7362. NOTE FROM THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT ABOUT SNOW REMOVAL: As many may know, after last January’s snow storm the Public Works Department acquired a snow plow attachment for the town truck. Winter is upon Vol. 10 Issue 12 December 2015 us. Some predict that this will be another wet winter. After the November fronts that brought rain and light snow to the community, Town staff has taken steps to make sure the new snow plow is ready to go when the need occurs. The snow removal plan is as follows: staff will start with the main collector/ feeder roads throughout town, then work into the smaller neighborhood roads. We will get to all the town owned roads as quickly as possible. The snow plow blade is wide and the truck has to move slowly in order to effectively remove the snow. When snow removal is in place, there may be traffic delays on town owned roads. Your patience would be appreciated. We also ask our residents to avoid parking your vehicle on the roads, especially the night before a potential snow storm. The next day, your vehicle parked on the streets may become an obstacle for the town’s truck to remove snow. If you have any questions about snow removal or just want to take a look at the snow plow, please call Ed Hanks, Public Works Supervisor at 928-632-7362. Town Staff wishes you a Safe and Joyful Holiday Season. CONSIDERING PUBLIC SERVICE? Personal use dead and down fuelwood permits for 2015 will expire on Dec. 31. Fuelwood permits are $5 per cord, with a four-cord minimum and a 10-cord maximum per household per year; accepted payment will be cash, check or credit card. A map of permitted cutting areas is included as part of the permit along with instructions on types of wood available for cutting. Starting in 2015, the dead and down fuelwood gathering season was changed to March 15 through Dec. 31. We made this change for several reasons: to make Prescott National Forest's firewood program more consistent with the other northern Arizona forests and to reduce the need to be traveling on forest roads during the winter when roads are most vulnerable to rutting and resource damage. Additionally, we are experiencing a higher percentage of firewood cutting violations during winter than at other times of the year. Visitors to Prescott National Forest can obtain additional information at Prescott NF Forest Website: http:// www.fs.usda.gov/prescott/; Bradshaw Ranger District, 928-443-8000; Chino Valley Ranger District 928-777-2200; or Verde Ranger District 928-5674121. CHRISTMAS TREE PERMITS AVAILABLE The Prescott National Forest plans to sell 450 over-the-counter Christmas tree permits starting on Tuesday, November 17. Permits will be available at the Bradshaw Ranger and Verde Ranger Districts Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and our Chino Valley Ranger District Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Permits will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis until they are gone and can be purchased with cash, check, or credit card. Prescott National Forest permits will not be sold at Big 5 Sporting Goods stores this year. Customers will be provided a map that shows the designated cutting areas along with additional Christmas tree cutting instructions. The permit will allow the holder to cut a tree of a particular species within designated cutting areas between the dates of November 17 through December 24. Rules for Christmas Tree Permits: 1) Each Christmas tree permit is $15 and allows permit holders to cut a tree up to 10 feet tall 2) A maximum of 5 permits per household 3) Permits are for personal use only 4) Trees must be cut within designated cutting areas 5) Trees may be cut until Dec. 24. No refunds on Christmas tree permits Tree cutters are reminded to be prepared for sudden weather changes and colder conditions when in higher elevations. A fun family outing can become miserable and even dangerous with a quick change of weather for the unprepared. The permits expire on Dec. 25, however forest officials recommend cutting your tree early in the season before the higher elevations are snow bound. Trees can stay fresh for quite some time if cared for correctly. There’s no excuse for not finding YOUR Dewey-Humboldt Town Library because we have a new, very large “LIBRARY” sign on the side of our building! We are located at 2735 S. Corral Street in Humboldt. Take Route 69 to Humboldt, turn east on Main St. at the Chevron then turn left on Prescott Street, and then turn left on Corral Street. You’ll see us on the right at the top of the hill. Our new sign can easily be seen from the intersection of Main and Prescott streets. Kids, the library needs your help! The library’s Christmas Tree needs ornaments. We are asking you to get crafty; create a Christmas Tree ornament at home and bring it in to the library to hang on our tree. If you bring in your homemade ornament to the Library for our tree we will give you a treat at the circulation desk! Help make the library festive by helping us decorate our Christmas Tree! The Mini Book Sales are returning in December, on Thursdays December 3, 10, and 17: 1:00 – 5:00 pm, downstairs in the JW Mitchell Room at the library. Come down to do some holiday shopping! A new selection of gift-quality books will be on display for purchase. Most hardback books are $1.00, most paperback books are $0.25 (Romance and Western paperbacks are only $0.10 each!) with the larger “Trade” paperbacks starting at $0.50 per book. DVD movies, audio books, and coffee table style books are priced at $2.00 or more. We have books for kids and teens! All prices are as marked. Come back each Thursday to find new items! The Dewey-Humboldt IONS group will meet on Tuesday, Decem- ber 1: 10:30am – 12:30pm. For December, everyone is encouraged to bring an item to the meeting and share how it inspired you. The item can be anything - a book, a piece of art, a song, a person, or just an experience like an “aha moment”. An inspiration is something that left an indelible imprint on you, like, “Wow! I never thought of it like that!” It doesn’t matter what the subject was, it matters that it left an imprint on you. When it happened can be any time in your distant or recent past. The purpose of this topic is to show how such experiences shape our lives. We will also talk about what inspiration means to us individually, because I’m sure that even though we can use the dictionary meaning for inspiration (which will be pointed out!) that some of us have a much deeper grasp of what an inspiration means to us. The IONS meetings are open to everyone with all points of view. Visitors are welcome! Refreshments will be on hand. The library has a weekly activity, US Fans of UK Entertainment, on Saturdays at 1:00 pm. The group’s goal is to enjoy, share, and discuss British entertainment. This month we will continue to view BRAND NEW Series 9 episodes, starring Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman, as well as viewing the first series of the 10th Anniversary revival with the Christopher Eccleston stories from 2005. Take a ride in the TARDIS with this time travel hit. We will have refreshments on hand! For more information, please stop in or call 632-5049 Afternoon Games, for ages 7 and up, will be held on Wednesdays: 2:30 - 4:00 pm. Kids can come down to play board games including Battleship, Connect 4, Chess, Checkers, Candy Land, Sorry!, Monopoly Jr., Scrabble, Dominoes, Parcheesi, Clue, and more! Also, we’ll have the Wii out to play on the library’s huge 90” movie screen. Come and play Super Mario Bros., Wii Sports Resort, Mario Karts, Just Dance 3, Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympic Games, Mario Sports Mix, and more! Bring your Wii games to the library to play against others! Afternoon Games will be held on December 2, 9, 16, and 23 (no session on December 30). The library’s Book Discussion Group will have its monthly meeting on Tuesday, December 8: 9:30 – 10:45am. The group is doing something a little different for December. We are each reading a “Fun Book” for the meeting. Find a book that will be fun for you. Read it. Then come for the meeting where each of us will then take a short time discussing the book we read, what we thought of it, and why it was fun. If you need a copy of your fun book for the meeting, come down to the library to place a hold; and, we will try to get it for you. Then read your fun book! Finally, come for the discussion. Light refreshments will be provided for this fun and lively event. Call the library, 928-632-5049, for more information.
