This is a fundraiser for the D-H Historical Society In August 2014, the Town council directed staff to work on adopting the 2012 I-Code series with amendments. One of the benefits of adopting the 2012 I -Codes is an improved ISO (International Organization for Standardization) rating for the Town, which in turn would lower Dewey-Humboldt property owners’ property insurance rate. After a year’s preparation, staff is making good progress. Most changes in the 2012 I-Codes are for clarifying and understanding what was mandated earlier in the 2006 I-Codes. Some new requirements are as follows: wall bracing; Arc-Fault circuits; and the addition of carbon monoxide detector requirements. The Building Official, Don Roberts, recently made a presentation to the Council about the I-Code update. He is presenting before the Planning and Zoning Commission at the November 5, P&Z Meeting. Please come to the meeting if you’re interested. Staff is hoping for the Council to adopt the amended I-Codes in December, then to be effective in early 2016. If you have questions , please call Building Official Don Roberts at Town Hall at 632-7362. COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CORNER CODE ENFORCEMENT IN DEWEY-HUMBOLDT– AN OVERVIEW Code Enforcement is a division of the Community Development Department who investigate and prosecute violations of the Dewey-Humboldt Codes Governing residential and commercial zoning. Code Enforcement enhances the quality of life and economy of DeweyHumboldt by enforcing regulations that preserve and protect neighborhoods. The Division will promote voluntary compliance wherever possible. What are some of the issues Code Enforcement deal with? Residential and Commercial Zoning Signs Unpermitted Uses Public Nuisances Abandoned Vehicles Construction without a Building Permit How is Code Enforcement investigated and prosecuted? Code Enforcement in the Town of Dewey-Humboldt is driven by complaints received in writing, either in person at the Town Hall, by mail, email, or Fax. We will not initiate an investigation absent a complaint. The only exception to this is where often there is a demonstrated health or safety concern with an eminent risk to the public. The Town needs the help of each citizen to maintain our community pride. We do not have the resources to engage in pro-active enforcement, so we depend on the citizens of the community to bring issues to our attention. To protect this relationship, the Town will make every attempt to keep the complaints confidential. COMMUNITY GROWTH PERMITS ISSUED: The Town’s Building Department issued the following “new residence” permits over the last month. This information is provided to indicate growth in the community.:  1 Single Family Residence  3 Manufactured Homes 2 The Dewey-Humboldt Newsletter CONSIDERING PUBLIC SERVICE? AGUA FRIA FESTIVAL & OLD WEST DAY By Sue Palacios The Agua Fria Festival & Old West Day did bring the Old West back to Humboldt! Did you see the Judges getting settled in for the morning events? Yes that was Town Manager Yvonne Kimball, Council Member Arlene Alen, distinguished former Mayor Earl Goodwin, and Sharla Mortimer who came up from the Farm to help out with this decision making. The day started out with the Pet Parade and with the winner of that going to Evie at Antiques and More and I might add this is their 3rd year winning the pet parade. The Main St. Parade judges had quite a job selecting from all the great entries. The Square Dancers who came in from Mile High and Cottonwood were chosen Best in Show. The Best Group award went to APS. What a fun group! And they came all the way from Phoenix for the parade. Best Float went to the Girl Scouts riding on Farmer John’s wagon from Mortimer's Farm. Best Western Entry went to our own Historical Society riding on the wagon pulled by the mules with drivers Pecos Pat and Lottie coming up from Congress to join us in the parade. So many entries and all did amazing! It might be a small town and might be a parade that fits our town, but it was huge with excitement! As the day went on, Music with Karman & Kompany, good food, crafters, prospecting, and pony rides. The Regulators and the Shady Ladies came in to bring some law and order to the event. I think they even tried to get into the museum thinking it was still a bank and that they were going to stop a robbery! They were surprised to find the Lonesome Valley Guardians already there ahead of them keeping peace in the town. Thank you to All for helping to bring the Old West History back to our Town of Humboldt! I was told that next year they would be back at High Noon and for everyone to be prepared. They will be riding back into Humboldt and want to meet up at the Agua Fria Festival on Main St. We are already working and planning for next years Festival and want it bigger and better. If you are interested in being part of the planning committee just get in touch with the DH Historical Society: 928-499-9972, Be sure to check out the Web Site and Facebook for more pictures of the day. Your Dewey-Humboldt Public Library has a lot of great activities in November including our Huge Fall Book Sale and a Special Astronomy Event! The library is excited to present Discovering the Night Sky at the library with John Carter from the Prescott Astronomy Club on Tuesday, November 17: 6:00 – 8:00pm. Astronomy can be enjoyed in a number of ways. Just looking at the “Astronomy Picture of the Day” on the Internet is awe-inspiring in itself. Being able to identify (and remember) the 88 constellations can be daunting. Then add to that the hundreds of deep sky objects you can’t see. There are a few objects that can be seen with the naked eye on a dark night. More objects can be seen with binoculars. And even more objects are available with a telescope. John Carter will walk us through how to use the free application Stellarium to discover the night sky and learn a little about Astronomy at the same time. Then, weather permitting, we will look at objects in the night sky with a telescope! This is a family affair, so bring the kids! THE BIG FALL BOOK SALE continues through November 7th! FRESH CRANBERRY SAUCE From Nina Corrao, the Prescott Valley Tribune, 10/20/96 If you’ve eaten fresh cranberry sauce just once, you will never buy the canned variety again! The canned sauce is good, but wouldn’t it be nice if when your friends and family compliment you on your cranberry sauce, you could say, “I made it myself.”  2 cups sugar  1 cup water  1/2 cup orange juice (or the juice from 2 large oranges)  Orange Peel cut in tiny slivers  1 package fresh cranberries In a two quart sauce pan over medium heat combine sugar, water, and orange juice. Bring to a boil, stirring to melt sugar. Add cranberries and return to boiling. Reduce heat and simmer 7 to 10 minutes or until berries pop. Add orange slivers. Continue to cook and stir to desired thickness. If you don’t like the whole berry pieces in the sauce, cook longer. The finished sauce will be shiny and thick and will thicken more as it cools. Cool before putting in a container or mold. Can be stored in the refrigerator. With the holidays approaching many people will increase their spending - for gifts, special food items, and entertaining.
