The next blood drive is October 27th at the Humboldt Bible Church on Old Black Canyon Hwy. Donors at the last two drives have fallen off some so I really need people who can give. You really do save lives with your donations. If you make an appointment it doesn't take much time. You can give 4 times a year. How else can you help so many people with so little time and money invested? To top it off we have some great local bakers who make the treats for the donors. Please donate! If you can't make an appointment you can walk in, but be aware appointments go first so you may have to wait a short time. Support this community. Give blood at our drive. Call me for an appointment: Mary Franks 928 642 2115 or 237 6596. You can also email mary2arett@bullerineworks.n et or go to blood heroes and sign up for the D-H blood drive on Oct. 27. For October, the group will have a conversation about their personal experiences regarding how they have changed over the years. What were they like as a child, as a young adult, and then later in life? Do they think they have learned anything about themselves, and especially about their place under the Sun? Has their position about religion changed - for the better or for the worse? What do they think about the Soul, and is there anything real about Infinite Intelligence? Is science becoming more religious, or is religion becoming more scientific? John Carter will moderate the group with a focus on engaging in short dialogs between individuals while they examine their beliefs openly. The IONS meetings are open to everyone with all points of view. The library’s Book Discussion Group will have its monthly meeting on Tues, Oct 13: 9:30 – 10:45am. The group is reading, Holding the Line: Women in the Great Arizona Mine Strike of 1983, by Barbara Kingsolver. This true story centers on the women of families during the 1983 Arizona mining strike against Phelps Dodge Copper. These women held the line, picketing the mines as the unionized men were barred from picketing. The book recounts the challenges these women faced, even with the dangerous presented by the mining company and with the National Guard occupying the mining towns. Come in to the library to pick up a copy of the book, and then come for the discussion. Light refreshments will be provided for this fun and lively event. Call 928-6325049, for more information. Taxes are used to fund government programs such as education and public safety. When people evade taxes, these programs do not get the support they need. The Department of Revenue is offering a Tax Recovery Program that provides a limited-time opportunity for taxpayers to come into compliance. The goal of the Tax Recovery Program is to offer relief to those taxpayers who, for whatever reason, underreported or failed to file returns and pay their taxes. Tax Recovery Applications must be received by the Department between September 1 and November 2, with all tax liability paid with the application. Taxpayers who meet all the requirements will pay no interest and have no civil penalties imposed. Now is your chance to avoid harsh penalties, criminal sanctions and higher interest. Visit www.azdor.gov/TaxRecovery.aspx to download forms and read the latest on the program. You may also call the Arizona Department of Revenue at 1-844698-9176 to get further details.
